Scheuerle builds 1,300-tonne shipyard transporter

German trailer builder Scheuerle of the TII Group might have set a new benchmark by delivering a 1,300 tonne single shipyard transporter to Hyundai Heavy Industries South Korea.

Built to transport pre-fabricated ship construction units, the SHT 1300 can boast a 30×10 metre platform and has a capacity of 1,300 tonnes.

According to Scheuerle, the vehicle is manoeuvrable, regardless of its size, due to an electronic multiway steering system that can achieve a steering angle of up to 165 degrees. The vehicle can also turn on the spot, as the hydraulically suspended pendulum axles with hydrostatic drives allows for an inner turning radius of 0 degrees.

The SHT 1300 will be shipped in two pieces that will be welded together at the shipyard in Ulsan, on the South East coast of South Korea.

“The Scheuerle SHT 1300 is easy to maintain and to operate. This means comparatively low service and operator education costs,” said Bernd Schwengsbier, President of TII Sales, the joint distribution company of the TII Group.

Ralf Grützmacher, Area Manager Sales Asia at TII Sales said, “On the Hyundai Heavy Industries production site in Ulsan, like at all other shipyards, it’s all about time, reliability and safety. That’s why Hyundai decided to buy a TII Group transporter.”
