Kögel to present new tank container chassis

German trailer OEM Kögel has announced it will extend its container chassis portfolio to include a special tank container model.

Named Port 20 Tankplex, the new design will make its debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Germany next month.

According to Kögel, the new lightweight chassis can boast a technical gross weight of 39,500kg and a technically feasible fifth-wheel load of 14,000kg. It is suitable for transporting 20-foot tank containers as well as 20-foot ISO containers and swap trailers with a total length of up to 7.82m. In addition, the 20-foot container interlocks also allow for the transport of 23 and 25-foot tank containers.

“The new Port 20 Tankplex is currently one of the lightest tank container chassis on the market. This allows payloads of over 36,500kg and therefore guarantees maximum operating efficiency for intermodal transport,” Kögel said. “The exceptional lightness is a result of the weight-optimised chassis and weight-saving standard fittings. These include, but are not limited to, rims and compressed air reservoirs made from aluminium.”

In order to ensure tank containers can be securely transported and easily handled, the 20-foot container interlocks are located in a central position, thereby optimising load distribution. As standard, the Port 20 Tankplex comes with a stainless steel leakage trough and plastic hose-pipes laid inside the frame for protection, as well as a work platform that can be easily removed for cleaning.
