North America’s strong trailer order season continued in February, with many a large fleet placing additional orders.
According to US company ACT Research, new order volumes of 32,143 trailers netted to 29,947 units after cancellations.
“Net orders were up 17 per cent sequentially and up 68 per cent from the same month last year,” said Frank Maly, Director – CV Transportation Analysis and Research at ACT.
Concerning backlogs, Maly noted that the industry orderboard was now at the highest level since August 2006. “While dry vans were the driving force in the 11 per cent month-over-month, total industry gain, strength was widespread. Seven of ten trailer categories were up month-over-month,” he added.
According to Maly, production surged in February compared to a weather-impacted January.
