Daytime truck ban causing stir in Manila

A total daytime truck ban implemented by the Philippine’s Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to ease traffic in Manila is subject of on-going political debates in the country.

“We can’t (live with the truck ban),” Albert Suansing, Director of the Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines (CTAP), told the Phil Star – stressing that small and new truck operators were bearing the brunt of the daytime truck ban.

“The big ones can sit it out. But the small ones, those who have just bought trucks and are still paying for them, they will be swallowed up by the big ones who can survive with only one trip a day.”
