US axle and suspension expert Meritor has announced that Ingersoll Axle (IMT) has selected the company’s Tire Inflation System as its preferred tyre inflation system on its line of trailer axles for the commercial trailer market.
According to IMT, the system can be specified on both straight and steerable axles. Steve McManus, Director of Business Development at IMT, said the Meritor system was the easiest system to install and maintain in an increasingly competitive market.
The Meritor system is a simple design that is able to deliver constant air pressure when needed, so interaction by the driver or maintenance manager is not required.
Already, more than 40 per cent of all new trailers built in North America include some type of automatic tyre inflation to improve on tyre management.
IMT is specialised in producing customised axles and suspension systems for on and off road applications and will celebrate 100 years in business in 2014.
