US trailer builder Transcraft, a subsidiary of Wabash National Corporation, has announced the addition of the ‘Coil Hauler’ model to its specialty trailer product line.
According to Transcraft, the Coil Hauler is specifically built to transport metal coils and has a low centre of gravity designed for a smoother ride, which can minimize the chance of trailer rollover.
The Coil Hauler includes a ‘bolt-together cradle system’ that is supposed to enhance trailer reliability and longevity. The rubber-lined cradle system, with a total payload capacity of 90,000 pounds (41 tonnes), enables the Coil Hauler to transport coils up to 80 inches (2.03m) wide, while protecting freight. Other design enhancements include a canopy and removable bulkhead.
Transcraft added that the Coil Hauler, constructed of Wabash National's DuraPlate composite material, protects freight “while reducing loading and unloading times by approximately 30 minutes”. The removable bulkhead and optional load bars provide backhaul versatility, allowing drivers to haul multiple types of freight with a single piece of equipment.
