ATDynamics to introduce TrailerTail device in Europe

US company ATDynamics has received EU approval for a version of its TrailerTail rear-drag aerodynamic device.

Approval of the devices was needed since they exceeded trailer length requirements in many of the 27 countries that make up the EU.

“TrailerTail technology has the potential to save the global trucking industry $50 billion in fuel costs over the next decade,” said Andrew Smith, CEO and founder of ATDynamics. “We are thrilled that a regulatory shift in Europe allows us to immediately offer a 50-centimeter version of our ATDynamics TrailerTail to this important market.”

Called TrailerTail Eco 50, the device was designed to collapse against the rear of a semi-trailer and act as a trailer door buffer in the collapsed state, the company said. “The TrailerTail Eco 50 has the ability to save over two per cent of fuel savings at highway speed and is compatible with all major European trailer brands.”
