German Trailer expert Krone has won the Telematics Award at the IAA trade show in Hanover for the second time in a row. The company was honoured for an innovative telematics system that allows for two-way communication, regardless of the country a vehicle is operating in.
The digital fleet management tool is based on Krone's online Telematics Portal, where the entire data is hosted on a safe and secure server. Companies can also integrate that data into their own IT structure to remotely control the system from the head office.
The system itself can boast two-way communication channel enabling useres to check on the refrigeration system in a trailer, re-set existing temperatures and change the status of the cooling system while the vehicle is out in the field. Furthermore it is now possible to access the vehicle locking system and check the remaining fuel in the refrigeration tank.
In case of an alarm situation – caused by an incident such as temperature fluctuation, EBS failure, etc. – the head office can be informed directly via SMS, e-mail or pop-up window. In addition it is possible to send the alarm directly to the driver in the cab.
217 entries were submitted for the 2012 Telematics Award. These were evaluated by an expert jury consisting of trade journalists, academics and programmers. The Telematics Award is supported by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the Lower Saxony Ministry for Business, Work and Transport.
