Insulated curtain-siders on the rise in UK market

UK food and distribution company Samworth Brothers has taken delivery of 12 insulated curtain-siders built by Montracon.

The so-called “Insuliners” have replaced the company’s refrigerated box trailers to handle the movement of freight from local bakeries to the group’s Leicestershire-based distribution centre for consolidation and onward delivery to major high street retailers.

‘This is a double first for us. It’s the first time we have used insulated curtain-siders and it’s the first time we have bought Montracon equipment,” said Graeme Hawker, Fleet Manager for Samworth Brothers Distribution. “The Insuliners, fitted with Carrier Vector 1550 fridges, are proving a far more cost-effective solution for this particular chilled service where short delivery cycles, on average of less than an hour, are typical.”

“We approached a number of trailer manufacturers,” Hawker added. “But we eventually chose Montracon because they were not only more aware of and sympathetic to our operational needs, but also because of the considerable experience they have in the design and development of these specialist trailers.”
