Wabash National begins production of carbon steel vacuum tankers

Wabash National will produce its first carbon steel vacuum tanker for hauling bulk non-hazardous liquids, primarily for the oil and gas industry – a new product that is expected to result in 60 new jobs at the Lafayette manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, US.

The new product is part of Wabash’s Energy & Environmental Solutions business, which is expanding the company’s reach into the energy sector. This has included the recent purchase of Walker Group Holdings, which produces the Brenner Tank and Garsite brands.

According to Wabash, the vacuum tanker weighs in at approximately 7.6 tonnes and was designed to be used in the oil and gas industry for hydraulic fracking operations, in which rock formation such as shale are split to capture energy sources like oil and gas from below the surface.

“Wabash National continues to provide transportation solutions in new markets to grow the business and diversify product offerings outside of semi-trailer and van manufacturing,” Dick Giromini, President & CEO, Wabash National said according to a recent report. “Vacuum tankers are another example of how we are executing on our strategic plan by responding to growing equipment needs within the oil and gas exploration market to expand and grow while countering the cyclicality of our core business.”
