Kögel’s alternative to long trucks

German trailer expert Kögel will re-engineer the LongPlex model for the 2012 IAA. The semi-trailer will be 50 kilograms lighter and 200 millimetres shorter when retracted, according to Kögel. As a result, it can be used even more flexibly.

The LongPlex range, which is already suitable for the field trial for innovative commercial vehicle designs, will be optimsied to deal with all the requirements of the container and swap body traffic.

“The trailer can be extended by 1.3 m using the convenient rear extension, thus providing the length required for carrying two 7.45 meter long swap bodies,” according to Kögel.

“When extended, it can either be used to transport two swap bodies EN/BDF C715 / C745 or two 20 foot containers. Of course, the extended LongPlex also meets the requirements of the German BO-Kraftkreis regulation, which limits the turning radius, and all other safety requirements.”

When retracted, it can transport one 20 foot container or a 40 foot container, which is a first for Kögel. “The Kögel LongPlex is the innovative answer to the strong demand from many customers and transport associations, such as the BGL, for a trailer that will transport two swap bodies.”
