Heavy truck demand in China down in fourth quarter

Due to continuing construction market weakness, heavy truck demand in China fell in the fourth quarter, US company ACT Research and SIC, China’s State Information Center, reported.

Although growth in consumer spending supported increased road freight transportation, heavy duty tractor sales declined, but medium duty truck demand exceeded expectations. This information is included in the recently released China Commercial Vehicle Outlook, which is jointly published by ACT and SIC. The report did not specifiy which impact the slowdown will have on the trailer industry.

“Two major factors impacting China were the slowdowns in both real estate and infrastructure investments,” says Frank Maly, Director of CV transportation analysis & research at ACT. “Both had a negative impact on construction/engineering heavy truck demand. Some improvement is projected for federal and local infrastructure spending, which will help support the heavy truck market in the near term.”
