US trucking industry praises Mexico tariff agreement: ATA

From the June 2019 issue.

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) is urging US congress to ratify the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

“Cross-border trade with Mexico supports 47,000 US jobs in the trucking industry, so America’s truckers appreciate President Trump and Mexico avoiding tariffs and addressing the immigration crisis,” said ATA President and CEO, Chris Spear.

“Free, fair and equitable trade with Mexico is of critical importance to our industry, which moved $424 billion in goods across our southern border last year.

“I hope this positive step will pave the way for finalising the USMCA trade agreement,” he said.

The US administration claims the new USMCA is a mutually beneficial win for North American workers, farmers, ranchers and businesses.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative said that when USMCA is finalised and implemented it will create more balanced, reciprocal trade that supports high-paying jobs for Americans and grows the North American economy.
