SDC reveals trailer line up for Birmingham Show
Northern Ireland’s SDC Trailers has given a sneak peek at the five trailers it will be showcasing at the CV Show in Birmingham next month.
According to SDC COO, Enda Cushnahan, the OEM is aiming to represent the full spectrum of requirements placed on modern trailers today, with a special focus on recent trends such as urbanisation and High Productivity Freight (HPFV) vehicle design.
In response to growing demand for ‘urban style’ reduced length trailers, he said SDC will present a 10.6m tandem-axle, rear steer curtain-sider unit fitted with a BPW load restraint system as a “practical and safe” alternatve to the challenges of urbanisation.
Also on show will be a 13.6m Glass Reinforced Plastic (GROP) parcel van that Cushnahan said will provide transport businesses with a “robust and practical approach” to an almost non-stop operation.
“Fitted with a wide slat roller shutter and internal roof mesh to prevent internal damage this design is now a benchmark in UK parcel operations,” he added.
According to Cushnahan, SDC will also us the CV Show as a platform to respond to the long awaited and much discussed confirmation of additional Longer Semi Trailer (LST) licences.
“With the experience of building over 40 per cent of LSTs to date, SDC Trailers are better placed than anyone to design, build and advise on this innovation,” he said.
Another trailer lined up for SDC’s show stand is a slimline neck skeletal unit fitted with a Genmark UM4 Generator – reportedly the first in the UK with a remote unit – capable of carrying all combination containers at a lower than standard height.
