Schmitz Cargobull on electric mobility

From the November 2018 issue.

German OEM, Schmitz Cargobull, has developed a new zero emission electric refrigeration unit that is designed for swap boxes.

EDEKA retail chain is among the OEM’s first project partners where it has taken delivery of a fully electric eActros fitted with a Schmitz Cargobull electric refrigeration unit and swap box for practical testing.

The vehicle, spec’d for food transportation and distribution, was handed over at the gasometer in Berlin-Schöneberg in the presence of representatives of Schmitz Cargobull, Mercedes-Benz Trucks and EDEKA as well as Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter (Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety). Alongside EDEKA other customers are taking part in the electric mobility field testing of Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

“The ongoing discussion about driving bans on diesel vehicles in city centres and the growing need for electrically driven delivery vehicles for ‘the last mile’ make it clear that the issue of electric mobility for commercial vehicles is of major importance and opens up opportunities,” said Schmitz Cargobull Chief Sales Officer, Boris Billich.

“We seize this opportunity with our refrigeration unit.

“Through the joint testing with Mercedes-Benz Trucks we can gain valuable experience concerning the critical factor of shared truck / refrigeration unit energy management,” he said.
